every time i saw the cartoon, i wondered if beast could change into any animal and any combo of animals or just actual ones. also i wondered why he used the same ones over and over.

Beast Boy can't change into an animal he doesn't know. Lets say: if Beast Boy never have seen a porcupine in his life and doesn't know anything about the animal, it wouldn't be possible for him to transform into a porcupine. Its not possible for him to change into a were form because that would be an incomplete transformation, and those kind of creatures doesn't exist.
Now that I told you all this, you may imagine why he transforms into the same animals over and over again. they are the only ones he knows.
